We will begin your program with an initial Health Strategy Session. Following our session, I will then provide your personalized “health-scription” — your prescription for optimal health and well-being. This will serve as a guideline for our health coaching sessions, as well as a framework for you to prioritize and reach your health goals.
From a very early age I loved anything to do with fitness, nutrition, and wellness in general. I was a very active child and involved with all kinds of sports and fitness activities from dance to figure skating, cheering, soccer, and many things in between. I was lucky enough to get a job in high school as an aerobics instructor and fitness trainer at the local Bally’s fitness center and I was hooked! As time went on, I gathered both knowledge and experience in the areas of health and wellness studying exercise science, nursing, and eventually holistic health coaching and integrative nutrition.
In a way, I have been a wellness coach for many years (albeit informally) doling out advice on fitness regimens, nutrition and diet, diabetes prevention, etc… and decided to make this a career as a wellness coach and owner of Simplee Wellness. I now am able to offer wellness coaching for individuals as well as groups and memberships.
My philosophy is that individuals desire to live healthier lives and feel more empowered to take ownership of their overall health and wellbeing. Given the appropriate knowledge, tools, and inspiration to do this, most individuals will make significant improvements in their overall health. I believe in providing individualized guidance and motivation for sustaining positive behavior change so that my clients can ultimately live the best life possible.
Recently, there has been a lot written about the benefits of health and wellness coaches. Brouillette, a medical writer, wrote a recent article asking the question “Can health coaches help fix our healthcare system?” on the KevinMD.com blog. She discusses how health coaches can extend the reach for primary care physicians by focusing on coaching and behavior change. The doctor’s focus is on diagnosis and treatment and then hands over the patient for longer-term, more intensive coaching and lifestyle modifications with the health coach. It’s a team effort and coaches can be very complimentary to the primary care team offering services that go beyond the walls of the clinic and the scope of what doctors and nurses can do with a patient.
One of my role models, Dr. Mark Hyman, is a big advocate for health coaches and discusses the benefits and future role in this video. He practices functional medicine and believes in helping to get to the root cause of illness to help patients actually get better vs. treating symptoms with medications (and not addressing the root cause) Physicians like Dr. Hyman are a perfect match for working together with health and wellness coaches since they have the same philosophies and can work as a team to ensure patients are on track with their health goals at and between visits with the doctor.
Here are some of the many amazing benefits you’ll find by working with a wellness coach:
1. Analyze all aspects of your life- we call this ‘primary nutrition’ – relationships, career, spirituality, fitness, learning, etc.. Nutrition is more than just ‘food’ so working with a wellness coach can get down to the root cause of any issues by assessing all areas of your life and investigating where there may be trouble spots. Realistic and attainable goals are then set and critical action items to achieve those goals are identified and discussed so the client knows exactly what they will need to do to achieve each goal.
2. Provide and support a personalized nutrition and fitness plan. We call this ‘bio-individuality’ and will tailor a nutrition and healthy lifestyle plan specifically to your individual needs. These needs can be based on food sensitivities (e.g. gluten), beliefs (vegan), cultural preferences (kosher) and many other variables. Over time, the coach will help you to fine-tune your plan based on your energy levels and how you feel after specific food types and portions over time. There is no ONE diet that works for everyone. We are all so unique that our healthy lifestyle plans need to support us that way and not be a ‘one-size-fits-all’ type program.
3. Offer guidance and inspiration to help clients shift their behavior to healthier habits. Clients develop a deeper understanding of the foods and lifestyle choices that work best for them, and implement lasting changes that improve their energy, balance, and health. Instead of prescribing one diet or one way of exercising, Wellness Coaches focus on teaching clients to become self-sufficient by observing the body’s responses to various modifications and choosing health promoting behaviors that work for them.
In addition, a wellness coach can also help you to:
Identify, prioritize, and achieve personalized health and wellness goals
Make incremental changes that will move you toward a more balanced lifestyle
Reduce stress, increase energy, and feel refreshed and recharged
Understand and reduce unhealthy cravings and gradually replace those with healthier foods or lifestyle choices
Provide your body with the appropriate nutrition to meet both your mental and physical health needs
Improve your self-image and confidence
Learn about food and lifestyle choices that will benefit your health and the health of your family
Become your own health advocate
As you can see, there are many ways to benefit from working together with a wellness coach. There is really no downside to feeling great, having abundant energy, and preventing illness and disease at the same time. It’s not that difficult or complex, but it does require the commitment and effort on your part. A wellness coach can offer that ‘nudge’ that it sometime takes to get you, and keep you on track with your goals. Whether it’s to lose that last 20 lbs and keep it off or to feel more focused and productive in your life, we are here to be your partner and support you all the way!
Diabetes Wellness can prevent a $35,000 amputation or a $100,000 heart attack. That’s wellness that makes financial sense!
The graph on the right should be a real wake-up call to any company. Employees with diabetes have annual medical expenditures $10,683 higher than employees without diabetes.
According to the American Diabetes Association, diabetes causes heart attacks, strokes, blindness, kidney failure, non-traumatic amputations, and neuropathy.
In fact, diabetes accounts for 20% of all hospitalizations, and 1 in 10 healthcare dollars spent. Statistically speaking, 11% of your employees have diabetes. Even more, an additional 30% of them likely suffer pre-diabetes, which elevates health risks long before the diagnosis of diabetes.
The good news is that high blood sugar can be reversed through lifestyle modification. Studies have shown that a lifestyle modification program can reduce the medical costs of diabetics by 40%, absenteeism by 50% and catastrophic health events by 50%. That’s wellness that makes real financial sense!

Did you know that a whopping up to 90 percent of doctor visits are stress-related? Stress, practically a 21st century epidemic, can wreak havoc on your health and happiness if you don’t learn coping techniques to keep it at bay—for good. In fact, some of the many detrimental emotional effects of stress include:
Anger
Irritability
Anxiety
Sadness and depression
Powerlessness
Total overwhelm
We’ve all experienced these feelings at some point, but when they become the norm rather than the exception that raises a stress red flag. By adopting some of the following stress-busting techniques, you can trade negative mindset for positive, productive, and potentially life-changing habits.
Laugh — Developing your funny bone can help increase circulation, stimulate lymph movement, and give your immune system a boost. A good, strong laugh also brings more oxygen to your body and brain, which makes you feel more healthy and energetic.
Exercise — Studies show an exercise routine can help combat stress—and ward off depression as a result of the release of endorphins, a natural feel-good chemical. In addition, your confidence builds as you exercise more and achieve mastery at a sport. Some kinds of exercise can also put you in a meditative state, a natural foe of stress.
Breathe Deeply — Learning to use your breath in times of stress has shown to be impactful on physical health as well as mood. In fact, those who meditate have lower blood pressure, increased circulation, and tend to be happier. Adopting a daily meditation practice can transform an ingrained stress response into a calm, measured reaction.
Reach Out — Making sure your life involves some measure of community helps buffer you from stress. When you feel anxious your tendency might be to close yourself off from others, but by doing the exact opposite you will replace a despondent mood with a fulfilling experience!
Delegate — Give yourself permission to delegate items on your to-do list to others. That way, you leave more time for to focus on what matters most to you.
Adopt a Pet — Studies show that caring for a pet—from a dog or cat to parrots and fish—can extend your life and help keep depression at bay. Pets help prevent you from feeling lonely and in the case of a dog, force you to get out into the world and interact with others while out on a walk. Petting a soft coat can also be very soothing to the soul.
Get Out in Nature — So many of today’s stressful situations stem from too much screen time, so making time to unplug by taking a walk in the woods, digging in the garden, or riding your bike along the coast is a powerful way of recharging your batteries. The grounding energy found in nature can help you move out of your head and into your body for an almost instant sense of calm.
Say No —Superwoman syndrome is pervasive but dangerous, so resist the urge to do it all. It’s OK to turn down obligations that don’t serve you and carve out time for YOU.
Schedule a Massage — Tension often lodges in muscles in your neck, back, and other areas of your body, so splurge on the occasional massage for a release and an hour dedicated solely to your relaxation!
Seek Support — When stress becomes unbearable, it’s time to reach out to get help. Either from a trained professional such as a therapist, coach, or energy worker or a support group that focuses on ameliorating stress. Remember that there’s no shame in this! In fact, it can only improve your long term health and happiness.
I’ve recently discovered how to make homemade kale chips (and am now addicted to them). I use kale quite often in my smoothies but don’t really enjoy it in salads or raw in general. So, a few months back, I was looking for other ways to enjoy kale and decided to try kale chips. If you haven’t already tried them I think you’ll be amazed at how tasty they are and, if you closed your eyes, you may actually think you’re eating potato chips.
Of course kale is a superfood and is written about all the time as a “nutrition powerhouse” and versatile green for various recipes. It’s low calorie, no fat, super high fiber, vit K, calcium, protein, and the list goes on… You can check out a great article here in Mind Body Green on the benefits of kale.
There are numerous ways to make kale chips and you can add other ingredients to make them even more amazing. Here is how I made them today (on this stormy, gloomy day)
- 4-5 handfuls of chopped (or pre-chopped) kale. I used the pre-cut and pre-washed kale from Trader Joe’s. It will shrink down quite a bit once it’s baked so feel free to cram as much in the dish as you can fit.
- Place in oven safe dish and drizzle with either extra-virgin olive oil (1-2 tbsp) or extra-virgin coconut oil (this is what I use) on top. You can bake these with NO oil if you prefer but will have a little less taste and may burn more quickly.
- I added some chopped walnuts (another super food)
- I used my toaster oven but you could use the regular oven as well. Pre-heat to 400 degrees (bake or toast)
- Bake kale for about 5 min. Remove and toss kale with the oil so it’s evenly covered. If you used coconut oil it will be liquid at this point for easy mixing.
- Sprinkle with some sea salt or garlic salt. I added some parmesan cheese this time which was amazing. About 3 tbsp.
- Bake for another 10-15 min. You want to ensure they are crispy but not burned. You may need to play around with the temp (between 350-400 degrees) and the timing to get the desired crispiness without the burn.
- Remove from oven and let cool for a minute or two. They taste best eaten right from the oven and still warm. Terrific for a stormy, gloomy day like today.
- ENJOY! -
